The Litter Abatement & Beautification Program is a court-approved initiative that gives individuals with court-ordered community service an opportunity to give back to their community in a positive and restorative way. Through supervised litter removal projects, participants contribute to the beauty and health of our service areas.
Program Goals
- Cleaner Communities: Reduce litter and illegal dumping across Shelby County.
- Restorative Justice: Provide meaningful service opportunities that allow participants to restore community trust.
- Public Pride: Improve the quality of life for residents by beautifying parks, roadways, and green spaces.
- Accountability: Track and report all service hours completed to the courts with transparency.
- Collaboration: Build partnerships with local government, businesses, and residents to create lasting change.
Service Areas
Court-ordered participants will perform supervised litter removal in the following designated areas:
- Public Parks (including Shelby Farms, Overton Park, MLK Riverside Park, and others identified by county authorities)
- Greenways and Trails
- Roadways and Highway Entrances/Exits
- School Zones and Playgrounds
- Neighborhood Common Areas
- Vacant Lots and Illegal Dumping Sites
